In BBC World News’ new three-part series Art of America – Looking for Paradise,
Andrew Graham-Dixon, art historian and critic, travels across the US in search of
the creative artistic work that has defined contemporary America.
While exploring the US’s rich art history, Graham-Dixon meets up with people
who understand the subject best, such as Billy Name, Andy Warhol’s former
lover.
Armchair travellers journey to the Elizabethan gateway to the New World; and
to Manhattan and the Abstract Expressionists as the host of the show continues
to provide insight about the motivation behind famous landscape painters; Louis
Sullivan’s prophetic architecture in Chicago and determines what part some of
the country’s most famous artists, such as Andy Warhol, Edward Hopper and
Philip Guston, played in shaping modern-day America.
Graham-Dixon also meets with the highly successful, eccentric conceptual artist
Jeff Koons and internationally acclaimed young artist Matthew Day Jackson.
