BREAKING NEWS: After receiving a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score
for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, composer Alex Heffes is in contention for a
nomination in the Original Score category for the 86th Oscars, taking place on
Sunday 2 March 2014.
Ryan Amon, composer of the soundtrack of Elysium, directed by South African Neill
Blomkamp, is also being considered for a nomination.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced on Thursday 12
December that a total of 114 scores from feature-length films released in 2013 are
in contention for nominations.
To qualify for a nomination, the original score must be an extensive “body of music
that serves as original dramatic underscoring and must be written specifically for
the motion picture by the submitting composer’.
The 86th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday 16 January.
