OpenView HD, South Africa’s new free satellite television provider, has installed
16 of its dishes and decoders into the 16 homes of Kleinvlei, a small community
in the Western Cape.
Kleinvlei is situated 75km from Clanwilliam in the isolated TraTra Valley on the
border of the Cederberg mountain range and has no terrestrial or cellphone
reception. Before the installation, the typical television viewing experience for
Kleinvlei residents was a snowy screen with limited channel offerings.
Maxwell Nonge, MD of OpenView HD, says, “OpenView HD offers South Africans
living in areas where television reception is poor access to free satellite
television with 15 channels in crystal clear quality. It is our aim to provide all
South Africans access to a free multichannel television offering. With the
installation of the OpenView HD decoders, we’re offering the Kleinvlei community
so much more choice. ‘
Due to the installation initiative, the people of Kleinvlei now have access to
educational and newsworthy content. “For a predominantly Afrikaans-speaking
community such as Kleinvlei, OpenView HD features Afrikaans-language channel
ASTV, broadcasting on channel 151, to keep them entertained and informed in
their own language,’ adds Nonge.
Resident Johanna Swart comments that she spends her evenings watching her
favourite programmes on OpenView HD. “I look forward to coming home and
catching up with my favourite stories on TV, especially the daily evening news
and my cooking shows. I enjoy Kom Braai and watch a bit of Diere Maniere. It is
much better if I view these programmes in my mother tongue, as I get to
practise what I see!’
Remarks M.A. Koopman, another Kleinvlei resident: “I would like to express my
great appreciation for the dish and decoder you installed for me as a gift. You
will never be forgotten and every time I turn on my TV I will think of you with a
grateful heart.’
