Bessie Tugwana, general manager of SABC News, has been appointed as the
acting head of SABC Sport following the resignation of Sizwe Nzimande.

Nzimande, who oversaw the broadcast of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, has left the
SABC in pursuit of new endeavours.

Hlaudi Motsoeneng, SABC acting chief operations officer, said: “The SABC has
benefitted a great deal during Mr Nzimande’s tenure and it is befitting that we
extend our gratitude to him for the great work he did at the SABC.

“We have confidence at the level of experience, professionalism and the in-
depth understanding of the broadcasting business operations Ms Tugwana has
displayed over the years, and she will in no doubt excel and deliver diligently as
expected.’
Tugwana has worked on various strategic portfolios at the SABC, including
performing as acting head of SABC Television and general manager for SABC2,
and will be operating on EXCO, the highest decision-making body under the
SABC Board.
