Parliament’s portfolio committee on communications has recommended to President
Jacob Zuma that the following candidates be appointed as non-executive members of
the board of the South African Broadcasting Association (SABC), in accordance with
section 13 of the Broadcasting Act (No 4 of 1999).
The candidates are: Rachel Kalidaas, Ellen Zandile Tshabalala, King Thembinkosi
Bonakele, Vusumuzi Mavuso, Nomvuyo Mhlakaza, Ronnie Lubisi, Professor Bongani
Khumalo, Professor Mbulaheni Obert Maguvhe, Krish Naidoo, Aaron Tshidzumba,
Noluthando Gosa and Hope Zinde
This follows the committee’s invitation to the public to nominate persons for
consideration and recommendation to the President for appointment to the board by
means of advertisements in the print media.
The committee received responses from 147 individuals and on 14 August 2013,
shortlisted 37 candidates for interviews. One candidate, Clare Francis O’Neil, withdrew
from the process.
Candidates were interviewed by the committee in open meetings in Parliament on 20, 21
and 22 August 2013 and in Johannesburg on 27 and 28 August 2013.
