Presenter Errol Barnett takes a closer look at the real Johannesburg in this week’s
episode of Inside Africa on DStv Channel 401 (CNN International).
As Barnett hits the streets of downtown Jo’burg for a more vibrant, informal
perspective of the city, he discovers the cultural exchange, the artistic expression and
the various ways people make a living in Johannesburg.
He speaks to street vendors in the CBD, who sell wares ranging from books to fruit to
fish, about the cultural melting pot that downtown Johannesburg has become.
Musician Kelly Grevler also features as she discusses passing on her skills and
passion to a new generation by giving free guitar lessons to girls in the Maboneng
Precinct.
Yeoville, a suburb close to the CBD, attracts immigrants in search a new life. Here
Barnett speaks to Sanza Fakudze, a journalist, restaurateur and Yeovillite. Fakudze’s
restaurant, Eat Arabi, features dishes with Congolese, Nigerian, Zimbabwean,
Ethiopian, South African, Indian and Thai flavours.
Inside Africa highlights the true diversity of the continent as seen through the
experiences of different cultures and religions and the mediums of art, music, travel
and literature.
