The Screen Arts department of the ASE (Academy of Sound Engineering) will in June
launch its Industry Evenings, which will bring together South African students and
industry professionals for a look at the state of the industry.
There will be 12 sessions of Screen Arts Industry Evenings running from June to
September 2013, with another 12 to follow from October 2013 to January 2014.
Says the ASE’s Michael Lee: “Each week a different industry player will speak on a
topic related to current industry issues and practices. The overall arc of the course will
take the students through the wide variety of topics relevant to understanding how
the local and international industry works. This includes lectures via web streaming
from important screen industry players from around the world. Each event will include
a social hour in which industry professionals and students interact. We are in the
process of looking for sponsors and partners for the events.’
The talks and interactions will be documented both on video and text and accessible
via both methods to future iterations of students and industry members for ongoing
learning.
Events will initially take place in the V1 auditorium inside the SABC’s Johannesburg
premises but will move to the new ASE state-of-the art building in Auckland Park once
it is completed in late 2013.
