Disney South Africa has announced that its family of television channels for kids and families was the number one kids’ multiplex in South Africa for all key demographics during the past 12 months. The multiplex takes over 50% of the kids channel audience, following its launch in winter 2011.
Disney XD launched in South Africa in May 2011, closely followed by preschool channel Disney Junior, as strategic additions to complement Disney’s flagship family channel, Disney Channel and to form the Disney Channels multiplex. Featuring a mix of live-action and animated programming, including worldwide hit show Phineas and Ferb, Disney XD has consistently ranked as the most popular kids channel in the country with all key demographics, while Disney Junior, home of hit shows such as Jake and the Never Land Pirates, has rated as the most popular dedicated preschool channel.
In the last measured quarter (April to June), the Disney Channels multiplex reached 7 million individuals 4+ (62%) in DStv households of which 2 million were kids 4-15 (69%). Disney South Africa has now retained the top spot as number one kids channel multiplex in the market for over 12 months.
The channels have also been resonating strongly with mothers. Disney XD now ranks as the number one and Disney Junior as the number two kids channels in the market with this demographic, reaching almost two-thirds (64%) of mothers in DSTV homes in the most recent quarter.

The multiplex has a thrilling new line-up of content for spring on Disney Channels including original movie Let It Shine, a dedicated Marvel programming block, Marvel Universe, and new animated preschool series Doc McStuffins which has proven a huge ratings hit in the US.
