Capetonian actor Sean Cameron Michael was recently invited by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to participate in the first round of judging for the Best Performance by an Actor category for the 2012 International Emmy Awards, which recognizes excellence in international television programming.
Jurors from around the world are selected based on their background and professional expertise and Michael was elated to be included on the prestigious panel of experts. Now that his votes are in, Michael has been invited to attend the International Emmy World Television Festival, as well as the 40th International Emmy Awards Ceremony, which takes place November in New York. He plans to use this opportunity to market and promote South African film.
With over 30 theatre productions and 50 television and film productions under his belt, it is no surprise that the local actor is now receiving this international recognition.
Theatre-goers recently saw Michael tread the boards as Father Huddleston in the 2012 Naledi multi-award winning musical Mandela Trilogy, while local TV and film audiences will remember him as Mr. Muller in Darrell James Roodt’s mini-series Ella Blue, as hard-hitting attorney Peter Gardner in SABC’s The Final Verdict and as Fergus Buchan in Regardt van den Bergh’s multi-award winning Faith Like Potatoes, recently screened at the famous Khudozhestvenny Hall in Moscow, Russia.
Internationally, Michael is known for his appearances in the Emmy winning sci-fi The Triangle, the Golden Reel Award-winning series Crusoe and as French United Nations worker, Charles Solenz, in Fox’s multi Emmy and Golden Globe winning feature 24: Redemption (opposite Jon Voight, Kiefer Sutherland and Robert Carlyle).
Other credits include the Primetime Emmy winning documentary America: The Story of Us as Thomas Edison (scoring the highest viewership ratings in network TV history) and as the lead in Animal Planet’s Mermaids: The Body Found, currently screening in the US (and once again garnering the highest ratings for the channel since 2003.)
Michael has just wrapped on the hit US TV series Strike Back 3 and will next be filming A Shot at the Big Time for producer Janet van Eeden in Durban next month.
Local TV viewers can catch him in Lost Boys: The Thirst (currently on M-Net) and also providing the voice of the Landlord in Universal’s global hit, Safe House (presently screening on DStv’s Box Office), while visitors to the Durban International Film Festival will be able to see Michael playing Agent HK in Kyle Stevenson’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi There are no Heroes.
Upcoming releases include Death Race: Inferno for Universal and opposite Sienna Miller and Toby Jones in The Girl for HBO.
