The opening round of the My Top Billing Dream Presenter Search 2012 kicked off at the Protea Hotel Willowlake, Bloemfontein where young hopefuls started queuing as early as 5:45am for the first auditions.
Prelim judges included Top Billing Presenter Lorna Maseko and Lesedi FM Radio Presenter Mamontha Motaung, with 2010’s Presenter Search winner Simba Mhere pumping up the crowd, conducting interviews and giving advice.
“Bloem had great energy’ said Simba. “The contestants came out dressed to the nines and really put effort into their auditions. If this is the start of the Presenter Search, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the country has to offer!’
A total of 226 entrants auditioned over the two days in Bloemfontein, with 42 getting the callback to appear for one more audition on Tuesday 15 May.
The Top 100 contestants will be notified before the second phase of My Top Billing Dream.
The KZN leg of the My Top Billing Dream Presenter Search kicked off on 18 May at the Protea Hotel Umhlanga Ridge, where hundreds of contestants lined the street before the audition of a lifetime.
‘Surprise’ was the word of the day for judges and Top Billing presenters Lorna Maseko and Sinazo Yolwa.
“We had people auditioning from all walks of life,’ said Sinazo. ‘Among the usual auditions, we were treated to some brave souls who sang or danced for us. As a presenter you’ve got to be prepared for unusual and sometimes surprising situations and Durban definitely stepped up to the plate.’
“Durban blew us away,’ added Lorna. “We weren’t expecting such a level of talent and promise and they really brought it!’
Top Billing executive director, Patience Stevens, Top Billing presenter Jeannie D and comedian Eugene Khoza formed the judging panel for the final day of callbacks and of the hundreds that auditioned, 29 hopefuls had one more chance to impress the judges.
The next leg of the My Top Billing Dream Presenter Search will take place in Port Elizabeth.
