The new South African film, Angus Buchan’s Ordinary People (62 prints), made R837,426 in its second week of release, bringing its cumulative box office to R1.6m. It made the number 10 spot in the Combined Top 10 for the weekend of 13 to 15 April.
After nine weeks of release, two other South African films, Semi-Soet (20 prints) and Material (41 prints), are proving their staying power and box office appeal. Semi-Soet has made R9.2m and Material R7.5m.
The biggest earner over the weekend was the hotly anticipated new release, The Hunger Games (66 prints), which made R2.6m. It was followed by American Pie: Reunion (78 prints) at just over R1m (cumulative box office after two weeks – R3.7m); new release Pirates! Band of Misfits (including 3D) (47 prints) at R873,688; Dr Seuss: The Lorax (including 3D (79 prints) at R826,581 (cumulative box office after four weeks – R11.4m); and Titanic 3D (40 prints) at R729,902 (cumulative box office after two weeks – R2.4m).
