Another suspension at SABC

Following yesterday’s good news that the crisis-ridden South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) finally has a Group CEO (Lulama Mokhobo) comes the depressing news of yet another suspension at the SABC, this time senior technology executive Gelfand Kausiyo.

According to TechCentral, Kausiyo, who was appointed acting chief technology officer following the resignation of Richard Waghorn last year, is facing “allegations of misconduct’ and is under investigation.

The Zimbabwean-born and bred Kausiyo is a long time employee of the SABC and was formerly the highly respected head of SABC Radio Broadcast Facilities (RBF).

In the meantime, Sipho Masinga has replaced Kausiyo as chief technology officer.

This upheaval is massively inopportune as the SABC is in the middle of preparing for a major technology shift – the country’s transition from analogue broadcasting to digital terrestrial television.
