On 15 December the Department of Communications (DoC) in collaboration with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and parastatal signal distributor Sentech will switch on a low power transmitter in the community of Tjakastad in the Municipality of Chief Albert-Luthuli, Mpumalanga Province.

The low power transmitter will provide the SABC1, 2 and 3 TV channels and Ligwalagwala FM to the community of Tjakastad, which is home to approximately 12,000 people.

This roll-out of the low power transmitter broadcasting infrastructure is part of the Department’s commitment to provide broadcasting services to all communities. The SABC and Sentech play a key role in ensuring universal service and access to South Africans.
