SABC2 has commissioned a new gospel music show, Gospel Classics, set to broadcast from Sunday 13 November at 8pm.

Gospel Classics, which takes viewers down memory lane by showcasing the all-time gospel classic hits, will be presented by entertainer and Ukhozi FM’s Vuka Mzansi breakfast show host, Linda Sibiya, and Bongani Nchang, known as the co-founder of the award winning group, Malaika.

Every Sunday for 13 weeks the show will feature renowned gospel artists who will choose and perform gospel classic songs of the 21st century, from both local and international artists of yesteryear. Two artists will perform each week, with the first one singing a classic song and the second a classic hymn.

The artists will share their memorable events and personal stories in relation to their chosen Gospel Classics songs and hymns, followed by studio interviews.

Gospel Classics will introduce an entertainment slot called “What If’. This segment gives the show an added element of fun which allows the audience to see some of their favourite celebrities perform jobs that are far from reality, shot on location. The celebrities featured on the “What If’ slot include Theo Kgosinkwe, Seputla Sebogodi and the Mahotella Queens.

“Joining forces with Pitso Communications in reviving the all time favourite gospel songs and hymns by respected composers and artists proves that SABC2 is committed to bringing valuable entertainment to gospel lovers, at the same time remembering the contribution made by stalwarts of the gospel music industry,’ says SABC2 publicist Caroline Phalakatshela. “With this new property we are hoping to attract more viewers and retain the loyal and dedicated tuners of our Sunday 8pm slot.’

Each show will end on a high note with Pastor Zondo giving a musical “Power Minute’ motivation backed up by the Gospel Classics’ band performance.
