Celebrating the best use of archive footage

FOCAL International, the international Federation of Commercial Audio-visual Libraries, is calling for entries for its ninth annual FOCAL International Awards, in association with AP Archive. The Awards celebrate the best use of archive footage material in a variety of genres, and also recognises the researchers, technicians and producers that access, maintain and use this precious resource.

The deadline for entries is 1 December 2011, while the award ceremony will be held on 2 May 2012 at the Lancaster London Hotel in London.

Julie Lewis, General Manager, FOCAL International, said, “The Awards have become an unmissable event in the world of footage. They offer the chance to raise entrants’ profiles amongst the biggest names in the business around the world and to shine a spotlight on the great work being done, both on screen and behind the scenes.’

The Award categories are as follows:

  • Best Use of Footage in a Factual Production
  • Best Use of Footage in an Entertainment or Drama Production
  • Best Use of Footage in an Arts Production
  • Best Use of Footage in an Arts Production featuring Music
  • Best Use of Sports Footage
  • Best Use of Footage in a Short Production
  • Best Use of Wildlife and Natural History Footage
  • Best Use of Footage on Non-television Platforms
  • Best Use of Footage in a Home Entertainment Release
  • Best Use of Footage in a Cinema Release
  • Best Archive Restoration / Preservation Project
  • Best Archive Restoration / Preservation  Title
  • The Jane Mercer Footage Researcher of the Year Award
  • Footage Library Employee of the Year
  • Footage Library of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement
