British rock band Coldplay filmed their new music video on locations in and around Cape Town and the Klein Karoo on 7 and 8 October, following their performance at the Cape Town Stadium last Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Cape Film Commission (CFC), CEO Denis Lillie received an early morning call on Thursday from the band’s local production company, Cinergy Films, requesting the Commission to assist in arranging all the relevant permissions for filming.
The CFC contacted the City and Provincial authorities to request that they prioritise the relevant permissions for filming.
The video will be broadcast globally on MTV and other music video platforms and, according to the CFC, will not only showcase the talent of Coldplay but also the natural beauty and vibrant culture of Cape Town and the Western Cape.
Alan Winde, MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, supported the filming of the video and commented: “it is great news that Coldplay enjoyed our country and our audiences to the extent that they have showed their thanks through filming this video here, it will also give a much needed boost of confidence for Cape Town tourism’.
Coldplay’s management said they were impressed that the Cape Film Commission, Cynergy Films and the permit office “could pull this thing off in such little time’.
Lead singer, Chris Martin, added: “it’s been an absolute pleasure to do the music video here’.
Director Mat Whitecross further commented that the local company Cinergy were brilliant to work with.
