Nurse Jackie, a half-hour dark comedy, will start on Monday 24 October at 9:40pm on SABC3.
The 12-episode first season of Nurse Jackie is described as wicked, heartbreaking and funny, and stars Edie Falco as title character Jackie Peyton – a strong-willed and brilliant – but very flawed – emergency room nurse working in the complicated and frenzied environment of a New York City hospital.
Jackie is a lapsed Catholic with a weakness for painkillers to get her through the days, and keeps the hospital balanced with her unique bedside manner and own brand of medical justice.
Every day is a high-wire act of juggling patients, doctors and fellow nurses along with her indiscretions. Jackie’s relentless dedication to her profession and her family come into conflict with the complicated decisions she’s faced with on an hourly basis, leaving her in many moral and ethical quandaries that she somehow must find a way to figure out.
The series, a co-production of SHOWTIME and Lionsgate, also stars Eve Best, Peter Facinelli, Merritt Wever, Haaz Sleiman and Paul Schulze, and features Anna Deavere Smith and Dominic Fumusa in recurring roles.
The pilot was written by Liz Brixius, Linda Wallem (The Comeback, That “70s Show), and Evan Dunsky. Wallem and Brixius are executive producers and show runners. John Melfi and Caryn Mandabach are executive producers.
