Mail & Guardian reports that ousted former South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) executive, Robin Nicholson, has issued a summons against the SABC, claiming R2.8m, plus interest and the cost of his law suit. The claim includes R1.5m in terms of the six-month fixed-term contract offered to him and a restraint payment of R1.3mn.
SABC’s head of News, Phil Molefe, was appointed acting GCEO when Nicholson was ousted from this position, and his position as chief financial officer, following a recent shareholders’ meeting attended by Communications Minister Roy Padayachie. At the meeting the SABC’s articles of association were amended to facilitate the appointment of any employee to top management positions at the corporation.
