The all African radio station, Trans Africa Radio (available on DStv Audio on Channel 172), has relaunched with a new weekend line-up that includes 10 exclusive live shows. Featuring in the shows is a starry line-up of international guests, SAMA award winners, as well as a taxi driver.
Trans Africa Radio prides itself in playing a minimum of 70% all African music, with some shows entirely dedicated to the finest of local music. It is one of the few radio stations on the DStv audio bouquet that has a reach across the whole of Africa, in addition to the online streaming.
The station’s revamp is headed by well known social commentator and celebrity blogger, Mika Stefano, joined by Saz, and together they host HomoNoHomo. After hosting the show for several months on an Internet radio station, Rhythm100 Radio, they jumped at the opportunity of growing Trans Africa Radio’s young audience. Their show is one of the few that play 100% All African music, everything from the latest rock ballads to the most memorable Kwaito hits. Stefano and Saz feel very strongly about pushing local music and have selected a like minded team of young DJs who will also be pushing the local music tip.
Also joining the movement as the Voice of the Station is well known South African hip hop legend, Slikour, who strongly believes that South Africans and Africans need to play and support more local music.
Trans Africa Radio has been a part of the DSTV audio bouquet for the past eight years. The studios are located in the heart of Braamfontein, Johannesburg. The station invites unsigned artists with new music to contact it on its Twitter page @TransAfrica172 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
