Afrikaans films endure at box office

Two Afrikaans language films on South African release made the Top 8 in Ster-Kinekor’s box office figures for the week of 1 to 7 July. The candid camera release, Ek Joke Net (29 prints), was in third spot and had made just over R1m as by the end of the week.

The period drama Roepman (1 print) was in eighth spot with an accumulated box office of R2.2m.

New release Transformers 3 (including 3d) (99 prints) was the biggest performer of the week overall, having made R12.4m, which put it at the top of the Combined Top 10 list. In second place was Kung
Fu Panda (including 3D) (80 prints) which made R2.9m.

Third spot went to new release Madea’s Big Happy Family (40 prints), which made just over R2m, followed by Green Lantern (including 3D) (81 prints) at R1.7m, and the comedy Bridesmaids, which made R1.6m.
