SABC and organised labour reach agreement

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and Organised Labour, The Broadcasting, Electronic Media and Allied Workers Union (BEMAWU), Communications Workers Union (CWU) and Media Workers Association of South Africa (MWASA), have reached an agreement for the salary and substantive negotiations for the 2011/12 financial year.  This will be a one year agreement.

All parties have agreed that the corporation will pay employees in the bargaining unit, eight point zero seven percent (8.07%) salary adjustment across the board, backdated to 01 April 2011.

In addition the parties have agreed to an adjustment to the housing allowance, to one thousand three hundred and fifty rand (R1 350.00) per month, across the board for employees on scale codes 300-409, also with effect from 01 April 2011.

The parties are confident that with the increase in salary, the increase to housing, and the collapsing of the 2 scale codes; which equates to 9.5%; will boost employee morale.

The SABC is happy that the negotiations were concluded in an amicable manner, which served the interests of all parties concerned, specifically the employees of the organisation.  SABC Board and Management remain committed to providing a conducive environment, which will continue to retain and attract the best talent in the broadcasting industry.
