The new single from Mozambican singer Lizha James, Gotta Move On, will be shown exclusively on Channel O as from 10 June. Channel O is available across the continent on DStv channel 320.
With an upbeat club vibe the track tackles real life issues. Says James: “The song talks about a person who is not sure where they stand but feels that they have to move on regardless. The beat takes over the person and the more they dance, the more their self-esteem grows. That is why we didn’t put a character in the video as there is no history, only feelings.’
Although James is known for singing in vernacular the music video for Gotta Move On is shot in English and sees a slight shift towards a house music feel.
“We recorded two versions of the song, one in Shangaan – because most of the population in Mozambique speak it – and the other in English – because it’s an international language that helps us Africans comprehend each other,’ explains James. “I decided to try other rhythms as I like to make people dance even if I’m talking about sad issues. If you are able to close your eyes and dance through your issues then I feel happy that I can help someone solve their problems without them turning to drugs or alcohol. If my fans would like to hear me sing house then I can surely do more house inspired songs.’
