The new South African Afrikaans-language film, Roepman (35 prints), made R477,211 in its opening weekend (20 to 22 May) and was in the number four spot on the Combined Top 10.
It was beaten only by three Hollywood blockbusters, namely Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (including 3D) (99 prints), which made R6.1m and was the biggest performer over the weekend.
In second spot was Fast and Furious 5 (86 prints), which made R1.6m, and Thor (including 3D) (50 prints), which made R550,290.
Two other South African films are still on circuit – Paradise Stop (4 prints), which is at R2m and Visa / Vie (1 print) at R11,190.
