Business Day reports that financially strapped South African public service broadcaster SABC is requesting more funds from parliament to alleviate cash flow problems and to help finance its migration from analogue broadcasting to digital terrestrial television.
The SABC is in the process of repaying a R1bn Nedbank loan approved by National Treasury in November 2009.
Civil society coalition SOS: Support Public Broadcasting wants the SABC to undertake an economic modeling exercise of its funding needs. SOS also suggests new legislation for ensuring transparent accounting at the SABC.
