A show to shed light on the ever-changing world of parent and child relationships will start on 20 May 2011 on SABC2.
Ratanang, The Parenting Club is produced for SABC Education by Whatwewant and will be broadcast on Fridays at 10:50. The show is meant to offer a platform for parents and children to interact and deal with issues instead of sweeping them under the carpet.
Presenter Phumi Mashigo says: “Ratanang is derived from a Sotho word meaning “to love each other’, the show is people-centred, solutions-focused and research-based. Parents share stories and find solutions to their situations, educating themselves and others on how to be better parents.’
According to Jo Neethling, commissioning editor at SABC Education’s public information and social development unit, the show will give parents the best means to cope with the challenges of raising children in today’s society. “We are expected to be parents, professionals, friends and spouses and be perfect in all these roles.
Sometimes we need help in one or all areas of our lives as parents, but can’t afford professional help or don’t know where to go to get it. Ratanang, The Parenting Club may be just what you have been looking for.’
SABC2 publicity manager Zandile Nkonyeni says through the 52 episodes their viewers will find out how children think and what they believe and understand about their own world, shedding light on the ever-changing world of parent and child relationships.
