M&G reports that the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) has denied an appeal by SABC3 against a finding that it contravened the broadcasting code in an insert on its 7pm news bulletin on 3 November last year, which alleged corruption and racism on the part of a senior M&G reporter.
In the insert businessman Robert Gumede claimed that M&G’s Sam Sole had received corrupt payments in 2001 from businessman John Sterenborg when working for Noseweek. The SABC3 bulletin did not include M&G’s explanation that the payment was to reimburse Sole for an air ticket.
