Johannesburg based animation studio Luma Animation was commissioned by The Launch Factory to film its R8m, 72-hour non-stop Miller Rock the Boat party and create a social video for the event.
Says Jason Cullen, director at Luma: “We wanted to capture the essence of what the event was all about, ensuring that whoever watched the spot got the same vibe and excitement as those on the boat. The experience was over the top, crazy and featured Bad Panda.’
The incorporation of music by one of South Africa’s premier bands, Flash Republic, combined with Luma’s fast paced editing ensured that the online video delivered its message in style.
This was an exciting project says Cullen. “We had tons of footage at the end of the party from a host of cameras, all adding up to a lot more than the 72 hours of the party. It was a case of going through all the footage to find the perfect clips to cut it all down into just 30 seconds. That also meant some difficult decisions because there was so much good material of people just having a great time.’
