Some 3,000 people aged between 18 and 25 responded to SABC1’s call to action issued in November for the best young leaders in South Africa to participate in the SABC Education series, One Day Leader.
According to SABC Education commissioning editor Futhi Ngubane, One Day Leader has selected six young leaders and a presenter for the show.
“This series focuses on leadership skills; we made our selection from those who are aware of their surroundings and issues affecting them and their fellow youth. We believe these young people will make a change for the better’ said Ngubane.
One Day Leader began its run on SABC1 on Tuesday, 15 February at 6.30p. The six contestants are Ayanda Bandla, Lesley Mosiamimang, Johan du Pisanie, Sebenzile Nkambule, Vanencia Vollenhoven and Zwelethu Kos. The presenter is Masechaba Lekalake.
The winner of the series will receive the opportunity to effect change and gain experience in positions of leadership through an internship in the offices of the chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency and the Presidency.
“After a series of elimination, our top six were chosen from a three-day workshop where we got an in depth look at their personalities and made our final decision based on the question “what makes a good leader?’ We focused on six pillars of leadership; willingness (that which will not allow me to merge into the crowd), vision (the convictions about life and what I stand for), attitude (my morals, values and outlook on life), influence (the way I communicate my vision to my followers), action (how I act on my vision without making empty promises) and accountability (I am responsible and able to answer for everything I do),’concludes Nguban.
