Following its successful screening at last year’s Toronto Film Festival in September, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) feature film, Viva Riva! has been selected for the Forum at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), which runs from 10 to 20 February.
Viva Riva! is written and directed by the DRC’s Djo Munga. The South African producer on the film is Steven Markovitz. It is a co-production between DRC’s Suka!, Belgium’s MG Productions and France’s Formosa.
The film is set in Kinshasa, DRC and follows the exploits of the charming and ambitious Riva. With petrol in short supply in Kinshasa, Riva and his sidekick pursue a plot to get hold of a secret cache of fuel that they can sell for a huge profit.
