It was with the goal of treasuring African stories and wanting to enable young talented filmmakers to reach a larger amount of viewers that independent film production company ONE FINE DAY FILMS developed with DW-AKADEMIE and GINGER INK a training workshop concept called FilmAfrica!.
This workshop provides the instruction of young amateur filmmakers in various departments by professional filmmakers, as well as the realisation of a feature film as an on the job training that conveys filmmaking in practice.
During the workshop a chosen group of talented young African filmmakers will get in contact with professional filmmakers from all over the world who are pleased to share their know-how and knowledge with them.

Module 1 – Film Department Training
The training module is taking place from July 4th – 15th 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya. 5-10 applicants will be chosen into the department listed below:

*and new this year: Film Acting
Module 2 – Feature Film Workshop
(Film making and post production module)
The feature film is produced by ONE FINE DAY FILMS in co-production with GINGER INK and takes place in October/November 2010.
Participants of the Film Department Training (Module 1) will be chosen to attend the Feature Film Production.
PLEASE NOTE:
The training course is conducted free of charge. All teaching materials and relevant course related costs will be covered by FilmAfrica!
During the workshop a free catering will be available for all participants, locals and from outside.
For participants coming from outside of Nairobi, Kenya, FilmAfrica! will cover the following costs – within the limits of pertinent German regulations –
· Accommodation for the duration of the workshop
· Costs for return journey between place of stay and Nairobi
Travels and hotels will be organized in coordination with FilmAfrica!
There is no provision of per diems. Participants not living in Nairobi should bring enough means for individual expenses to cover miscellaneous expenses, like phone calls home, laundry, and other individual costs. Furthermore FilmAfrica! cannot take out health, third party-liability or accident insurance. Do not consider taking part on the FilmAfrica! training program as a proper source of income.
The FilmAfrica! Workshop programme is a partnership project between the ONE FINE DAY FILMS, DW-AKADEMIE and Ginger Ink. Films. It is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfahlen and the Goethe-Institut Kenya.
PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS
A)QUAL IFICATION
Your application for the FilmAfrica! Training Workshop will only be processed if you meet the following requirements:
1. You fill out the application form correctly and fully. In case you are selected as participant, please be aware that your data may be published on our website and on other public materials as provided by you.
2. You have worked on at least one short film and/or you are a student at a film school or in a
film programme and/or you have experience in the film industry.
3. You have submitted a complete application.
4. You are a citizen of an African country and reside in Africa and be at least 18 years of age by July 1st 2011.
5. You are fluent in English language, written and spoken. The courses will be conducted in English.
6. If you apply for the Editing workshop, you know how to work with either Avid Media Composer or Final Cut Pro (basic knowledge will not be sufficient).
B) APPL ICATION
Please note that the application is individual. We cannot accept team applications.
The application consists of THREE PARTS:
1. A completed Application Form to be emailed to application@film-africa.org
2. A 1-minute application video about yourself (the url of uploaded content to be stated in the Application Form).
3. A 1-minute application video on your previous work , work sample, showreel, etc.

What experience in film do you have, where do you come from, where do you live, what cinematic vision do you have? Choose the genre and style you think fits best e.g. make a short documentary, animation film, musical, whatever comes to your mind! We are keen to see your creativity!

C) FURTHER REGULATIONS
The participant declares that he/she owns the copyright for the 1-minute application videos, according to the relevant national and international regulations. He/she guarantees that no rights of third parties are violated by the material used in the film or other samples of work submitted. The participant unconditionally and irrevocably declares his/her copyright responsibility towards third parties in case of disputes over copyright violations. In this respect, the participant exempts the FilmAfrica! Training Workshop from all claims by third parties.

Selection of participants
Participants will be selected at the sole discretion of FilmAfrica!. Applicants selected for participation will be informed via email by May 15th 2011. The list of selected participants will be published on our website. There is no legal claim to participate in the FilmAfrica! Training Workshop. FilmAfrica! will produce a feature film this year. After the training workshop took place, a committee of FilmAfrica! will select a number of apprentices to join us on this production. The shooting of the film will take place in fall 2011 and you need to be available for app. 4-6 weeks.

The FilmAfrica! Training Workshop offers, free of charge, a comprehensive programme and many privileges to all participants. In return we expect your full participation and daily attendance at the Workshops. The FilmAfrica! Training Workshop reserves the right to remove participants from the Training Workshop and the website who abuse their participation, who are repeatedly absent, or who make false statements.
Privacy
The FilmAfrica! Training Workshop respects each person’s right to privacy. We do not buy or distribute personal information or your samples of work for commercial purposes. Your application data will be treated confidentially. If you are selected to participate in the FilmAfrica! Training Workshop, it may be displayed in a database at the FilmAfrica! Workshop and on our website or related areas. The purpose is to improve communication between participants, experts and visitors.
