You wouldn’t think that there would be a rush to replace the four board members of crisis stricken public broadcaster SABC who resigned recently but Business Day reports that parliament has received more than 84 nominations for the vacant posts.
Interviews with short-listed candidates are likely to take place from 17 to 21 January with a final decision expected on 27 January.
Apart from the SABC’s financial and managerial woes (GCEO Solly Mokoetle is still under suspension), there have been, according to some board members, alleged governance breaches by board chairman Dr Ben Ngubane and Mokoetle and a perceived lack of support from government for the board.
The board members who resigned are Barbara Masekela, David Nidrie, Felleng Sekha and Magatho Mello.
