Responsible for such iconic films as Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet and the cult TV series Twin Peaks, filmmaker and visual artist David Lynch is considered one of the most important directors of the modern era. Now aged 64, he has launched into a new career with an electronic single, Good Day Today / I Know, through leading UK independent Sunday Best Recordings.
Music and sound have always been one of the filmmaker’s obsessions — he previously wrote and produced an album with his soundtrack composer, and had a hand in Falling, the theme tune to Twin Peaks.
By all accounts, even by Lynch’s own standards Good Day Today is a startling composition. The record features Lynch himself on vocals.
When the track was first aired by Jason Bentley, on his hugely influential KCRW radio station in Los Angeles, it was mistakenly credited to Underworld, causing a debate over the artist’s identity to rage on the Underworld website and message boards.
