After a big opening at the South African box office on 12 November, the new Afrikaans film, Liefling (97 prints), has showed considerable staying power by making R1.7m over its second weekend of release. As at 21 November, Liefling’s cumulative box office was R4.7m, a phenomenal result for a South African film that doesn’t star local box office king, Leon Schuster.
The biggest earner for the weekend was the new release blockbuster, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (112 prints). It took a huge R5.4m.
Liefling took second spot at the weekend, followed by Unstoppable (61 prints), which made R800,858 and has a cumulative box office of R3.7m after three weeks of release.
In fourth and fifth spots were the action crime comedy, Reds (45 prints) and the romcom Life As We Know It (59 prints). The cumulative box office figures for these two titles are R2.2m and R6.3m respectively.
