Finland is not a film market one hears of very often but Cineuropa reports that box office figures for domestic films have grown more than 150% from 2009. According to the Finnish Film Foundation, over 1.2 million tickets have been sold for locally produced films since the beginning of 2010.

Local films presently account for a 22% share of total box office in Finland, whereas in 2009 the figure was 15%.

For five consecutive weeks the box office has been topped by the local film Princess, with a total admission figure of over 170,000.

The domestic comedy road movie Lapland Odyssey releases on 20 October and is expected to do well at the box office.
