Acclaimed international large predator expert and Discovery Networks’ most popular presenter, Dave Salmoni, has arrived in South Africa. The Into the Lion’s Den star is visiting the country as part of Discovery Network’s media highlight of its fourth quarter 2010 and 2011 programming.
Salmoni is currently appearing on South African screens in Animal Planet’s (DStv channel 264) Into the Lion’s Den – one of 12 shows broadcast as part of the channel’s gripping Animal Heroes Season, which runs from September to December 2010. He’ll also feature in two of the season’s upcoming shows, namely Into the Pride (airing 20 September 2010) and Rouge Nature (premieres 25 October 2010).
While in the country, Salmoni hosted a special media round table discussion on Tuesday 14 September on his extensive career both on and off screen and appeared at Discovery Networks’ Upfront media event on Wednesday 15 September, which featured highlights of Discovery’s entire 2011 programming, including Salmoni’s exciting new show, World’s Deadliest Towns.
Canadian-born Salmoni is no stranger to the country, visiting it several times a year and maintaining a home and business in Johannesburg. He’s renowned internationally as a big cat handler and trainer (including lions, tigers and jaguars) and a large predator conservationist, focusing specifically on exploring the human-animal connection and successful means of co-existence.
“I’m really excited to be back in South Africa – a place I regard as my second home,’ says Salmoni. “Every time I come here I’m struck by the incredible opportunity South Africans have to understand and as a result – protect – their amazing wildlife. That’s something I’m really passionate about and hope to convey to viewers through the shows being broadcast as part of Animal Planet’s Heroes Season.’
