The two South African films currently on the local circuit continue to fare well. Leon Schuster’s blockbuster comedy – Schuks Tshabalala’s Survival Guide to South Africa 2010 – has now raked in R37.1m after 11 weeks of release.
Stefanie Sycholt’s more niche film, Themba, made the number eight spot of Ster-Kinekor’s Top 8 over the weekend of 6 to 8 August. It has made R125,252 to date.
New release Grown Ups took over from Shrek Forever After (including 3D) in the top spot of the Combined Top 10. It took R2.1m over the weekend while “Shrek’ made R2.1m. To date “Shrek’ has accumulated R19.4m over four weeks.
Another new release, Cats & Dogs 2 (including 3D) debuted in the number four spot and made R1.2m. The thought-provoking Leonardo diCaprio drama, Inception, was in third place, making R1.5m. It is in its second week and has amassed a total of R4.1m.
Meanwhile, Twilight: Eclipse, in sixth spot over the weekend, has made R26.8m since its release on 30 June.
