Filmmakers in South Africa and the continent now have until Friday, 3 September to submit their applications for Focus Features’ Africa First programme.

The Africa First initiative exclusively earmarks funds for emerging filmmakers of African nationality and residence. This is the third consecutive year that Focus Features is offering eligible and participating filmmakers the chance to be awarded $10,000 in financing for pre-production, production, and/or post-production on their narrative short film made in continental Africa and tapping into the resources of the local film industry.

Focus Features’ Africa First programme director Kisha Cameron-Dingle and Focus director of production Matthew Plouffe decided to extend the entry deadline after receiving numerous requests at the recent Durban FilmMart in South Africa.
