The government of Malawi announced during the national budget on Friday 28 May that functions of the Malawi Television Limited (TVM) would be merged with the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
Finance Minister Ken Kandodo Banda who made the announcement said it was necessary to dissolve Malawi Television to streamline and rationalise expenditure on the two organisations.
Last month Minister of Information and Civic Education Leckford Thoto announced that the merger of Malawi’s two state-owned broadcasters is near completion.
