Broadcasting & Cable reports that sports broadcaster ESPN will provide multiplatform coverage of the 2010 Fifa World Cup through online, mobile, social media, fantasy, games and digital audio.

In a US first for World Cup coverage, ESPN will provide extensive live match coverage – 56 matches – to mobile phones. The broadcaster will also have an application for Apple devices for the duration of the World Cup, where fans will, among other things, share reactions through Facebook and Twitter and receive text message updates on all the match scores.
