South Africa’s king of comedy, Leon Schuster, has proved his box office mettle once again. His new film, Schucks Tshabalala’s Guide to SA, took in a massive R3.5m over its opening weekend (28 to 30 May) at the local box office. It hammered fellow new release Sex and the City 2, which took just over R2m. Schucks Tshabalala is being released by independent distributor, Indigenous Films.
Next big performers over the weekend were Prince of Persia, which took in R1.5m, Robin Hood at R775,788 and Iron Man 2 at R762,062. To date, Iron Man 2 has made a total of R15.2m after five weeks of release.
