Italy’s national film body ANICA reports that 2009 saw a drop in the number of indigenous films produced as well as a 50% reduction in public funds for production. On the upside, overall box office revenue rose 5%.
By way of comparison, in 2008 Italy produced 154 films and only 131 last year. According to ANICA’s report, private investments in film remained basically stable in 2009 (€258m versus €259 in 2008) but public investments in production plummeted €38m, for a total of €296m.
