In a tragic turn of events, the man who was the source for a recent eNews story in which two members of the criminal underworld were interviewed, apparently committed suicide in Soweto on the morning of 19 January.
eNews has expressed its deep regret at the death. An eNews statement reads: “This man was our only link to those criminals. He helped us of his own free will.
“We send our deepest condolences to the family of the man involved.
“While the circumstances of the apparent suicide are not yet known, eNews has not revealed his identity to anyone.
“Section 205 subpoenas have been served on one of our journalists and group news editor, Ben Said. Police want the names and addresses of the criminals we interviewed as well as footage of the interviews. This matter is currently with our lawyers.’
