French President Nicolas Sarkozy is looking at imposing taxes on Google and Yahoo’s advertising revenues in France. The Guardian reports that money accumulated from the tax would go to cultural ventures such as newspaper subscriptions for example.
The French government believes it could raise between €10m and €20m a year from the tax.
However, it might prove difficult implementing such as tax as authorities would have to establish exactly how many French web users were being reached by the Google and Yahoo advertising.
