Capitalism: A Love Story, the latest film by one-time Oscar darling, Michael Moore (Farenheit 9/11, Bowling for Columbine), did not make the 15-strong shortlist for the best documentary feature category of the 2010 Oscars. The high profile film was the highest grossing documentary in America.
Other high profile documentaries that didn’t make the cut include The September Issue: Anna Wintour and the making of Vogue, and Tyson.
One African-themed documentary, Mugabe and the White African (directed by Lucy Bailey and Andrew Thompson), made the list. Other finalists are: The Cove, Food, Inc., Valentino: The Last Emperor, Every Little Step, The Beaches of Agnes, Burma VJ, Facing Ali, Garbage Dreams, Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders, The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, Sergio, Soundtrack for a Revolution, Under Our Skin and Which Way Home.
According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts; Sciences, the custodian of the Oscars, some 89 films from around the world qualified for the selection.
The final five nominations will be announced on 2 February, with the Oscars presented on 7 March.
