As Hollywood hurtles into its annual awards season, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, under whose auspices the Golden Globes are run, will expand the number of nominations for Best Animated Feature from the traditional three to five.
To qualify for the category films must be 70 minutes or longer and must not comprise more than 25% live action.
Similarly, the Oscars will also have five nominees instead of the usual three.
The 67th Golden Globes will take place on 17 January 2010 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Hollywood, followed by the 82nd Oscars on 22 Febrary in Los Angeles’ Samuel Goldwyn Theatre.
