In its opening weekend on the South African box office, Michael Jackson This Is It generated a hefty R3.6m in revenue, mirroring its impressive overseas takings.
This Is It bumped The Ugly Truth from the number one spot. The romcom has made R6.3m in four weeks.
Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterd was in third spot and has made R2.2m in two weeks. It was followed by Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs (3D including IMAX) and Up (including 3D).
Meanwhile, the South African-themed John Malkovich starrer Disgrace is still in the UIP Top 8, in seventh spot with a cumulative box office of R540,453. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
