After six weeks of release on the South African circuit, Neill Blompkamp’s blockbuster District 9 has generated R9.1m at the box office.
Meanwhile, the John Malkovich starrer Disgrace, based on the novel by JM Coetzee and filmed in South Africa, has made R508,011 and after nine weeks in release, was still in the UIP Top 8 for the weekend 2 to 4 October.
Top earners for the same weekend were the animated Up (including 3D) which has made R11.3 in four weeks. It was followed by new release Final Destination (also including 3D), Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, Fame and Imagine That. District 9 was in the eighth spot.
