According to the annual Sunday Times Top Brands survey, BP is South African consumers’ top choice of petroleum brand.
This is the 9th year in a row that BP has ranked ahead of its competitors despite the new methodology used for the first time this year by independent research house TNS Research Surveys. Engen and Shell were rated second and third respectively.
The rating is based on the view of 3,500 consumers from all walks of life, who were polled for their opinion on SA’s top brands. This year’s study had a higher proportion of city dwellers and high-income respondents than in previous years, but the final results were weighted back to represent the population according to Stats SA 2008 population figures.
Neil Higgs, Director of Innovation and Development at TNS Research Surveys says four principles were applied in each category; namely brand familiarity, brand presence, user brand rating and public perception of a brand (by a those who were not brand users).
Tristao Abro, BP’s Brand & Insights Manager said BP was delighted with the recognition which is largely due to a team effort on the part of all staff and business partners.
