YouTube in talks to rent films online

The Wall Street Journal reports that video sharing website YouTube is talking to studios such as Lions Gate, Sony Picture and Warner Bros. about the possibility of onlne rentals of their films. YouTube is reportedly considering a rental rate of $3.99 for newer films and half of that for older releases.

Meanwhile, The Guardian (UK) reports that YouTube has signed a new licensing deal with music royalties collector, PRS for Music. This will see the return to YouTube of thousands of previously pulled music videos after a six-month long dispute over royalties.
