The Television Industry Emergency Coalition (TVIEC) is set to meet with the SABC on 6 August at Johannesburg’s Atlas Studios to discuss the beleaguered public broadcaster’s decision to hold off commissioning any new local programmes until next year.
TVIEC was formed earlier this year in response to the SABC’s financial and management crisis which has seen it owing independent producers over R60m and effectively crippling the industry.
The broadcaster’s overall debt is said to be in excess of R839m and it has requested a R2bn bail-out from government. (Source: Business Day)
